Description:

Early in her life, Josephine Malone learned the hard way that there was only one person she could love and trust: her grandmother, Lydia Malone. Out of necessity, unconsciously and very successfully, Josephine donned a disguise to keep all others at bay. She led a globetrotting lifestyle on the fringes of the fashion and music elite, but she kept herself distant.

While Josephine was trotting the globe, retired boxer Jake Spear was living in the same small town as Lydia. There was nothing disguised about Jake. Including the fact he made a habit of making very bad decisions about who to give his love.

But for Josephine and Jake, there was one person who adored them. One person who knew how to lead them to happiness. And one person who was intent on doing it.

Even if she had to do it as her final wish on this earth. (via Goodreads.com)

Our Thoughts:

  • After reading this novel we have all of these feels!. We were eagerly anticipating the first novel in this brand new KA series for the last six months and it did not disappoint.

  • Overall this is a wonderful story about redemption and a person’s the ability to start over. Being able to find your right path in life, even if you have already experienced a lot life has to offer. It a novel about a group of people with missing pieces in their lives, coming together to become a whole family. Family is not about blood but those who you chose to let in.

  • The reader never meets Lily, but you come to love her through the effects her actions have on others. She was an amazing person, who by the words she left behind and the character’s memories was able to help those she loved. Even in death her guiding presence is seen making this story great, despite its underlying sadness. She reminds us of our Nana, who was also a lover of a good HEA and whom we think about every day.

  • In the very beginning of the story, Josie was not our favorite person. She was cold, stuck-up, and distant. Her decision to stand-up Jake resulted in some nasty name calling from us. As the story progresses, the reader gains a better understanding of her past. Josie’s walls begin to come down and you see another side of her. When she finally embraces her new community and her man’s children you really start to like her as a person.

  • In the beginning we were afraid the novel would turn into some ridiculous dramatic triangle, thank GOD it didn’t! So many wicked hot men wanted Josie, when it rains it pours. We’re so moving to Magdalene, ME.

  • Jake is crushworthy from the very beginning, but then you fall completely head over heels for him. He’s an amazing father, smart, considerate, generous, warm, tough, and hotter than hot.

  • Jake keeps his distance until he could become the man she deserves, the man of her dreams! There is something wonderfully romantic about a man who fall in love at first sight, then bides his time waiting for the right moment to claim you. He is all alpha; possessive, controlling, and loves to be real, but underneath he is a romantic who’s hopelessly in love.

  • Fight night! Can you get any hawter?!

  • The supporting cast gets enough page time without distracting from the couple’s love story. You fall for Jake’s children and they add just the right amount of teenage drama to make their stories interesting. Junior and Alyssa’s relationship/family are awesome! They demonstrate what a marriage should be. Josie gains a great new galpal in Alyssa. We really liked their budding friendship.

  • Who will be next in the Magdalene Series to find their HEA? The sheriff or the fighter? We are on Team Mickey (#TeamMickey).

Happy Reading!
