Description:

An old flame rekindled . . .

Zara Cinders always knew Ham Reece was the one, but he wasn’t interested in settling down. When she found someone who was, Ham walked out of her life. Three years later, Zara’s lost her business, her marriage, and she’s barely getting by in a tiny apartment on the wrong side of the tracks. As soon as Ham hears about Zara’s plight, he’s on her doorstep offering her a lifeline. Now, it will take every ounce of will power she possesses to resist all that he offers.

Ham was always a traveling man, never one to settle down in one town, with one woman, for more time than absolutely necessary. But Ham’s faced his own demons, and he’s learned a lot. About himself, and about the life he knows he’s meant to live. So when he hears that Zara’s having a rough time, he wants to be the one to help. In fact, he wants to do more than that for Zara. A lot more. But first, he must prove to Zara that he’s a changed man. (Via goodreads.com)

Our Thoughts:

It is great to be back in Gnaw Bone and catch up with all of our friends; especially Nina and Max who are still very much in love. Kristen Ashley has written an excellent novel that takes a topic many people face, the loss of your livelihood and gives readers hope that with the right person you can find happiness. Both characters have troubled pasts and previous relationships, but they are able to get through them together. This is the story of two people finding their way back to one another. One of the great things about Zara and Ham, is they are a couple who have things in common: movies, beer, what they want out of life. The relationship not be solely based on hot sex. Screwing against the wall won’t always be physically possible. There needs to be a basis for a real lasting relationship.

Like most KA novels, there is a strong presence of family. Which is not necessarily those with whom you share blood, but the people who love you and who see you through everything. It takes a village. Spoiler Alert: The highlight for Kitty was one characters mention of Tate Jackson and how awesome he is, she totally agrees!

Why we liked her:

Zara is awesome, and we want to be her B.F.F. She is funny, kind and has a resilient spirit, and you admire her because she never gives up hope. She does not try change her man into something she knows he can not be. Since Ham can not give her what she wants and needs, Zara realizes to make herself happy she needs to let him go. She has the strength to go after what she wants, even if it’s not with him and hurts. When he comes back into her life planning to stay, she just does not roll over and accept what he’s now willing to give. Our girl makes him work for it.

Why we like him:

Ham is hot! He understood at the time, he was not able give Zara everything she wanted. Willing to let her go so she could be happy, this however did not stop him from stepping into her life whenever she needed him. After a near death experience and the loss of a good woman Ham learns from his mistakes. He realizes what he had with Zara was something not to be afraid of, but was special. He does everything in his power to right the wrong. This makes Ham an amazing man.

Happy Reading!
