Description: “Lanie Heron isn’t looking for love-no surprise, considering her last serious relationship nearly got her killed. So when Lanie propositions Hop Kincaid, all she wants is one wild night with the hot-as-hell biker who patrols with the Chaos Motorcycle Club . . . For Hop, Lanie has always been untouchable. She’s too polished and too classy for his taste. But when she gives Hop the once-over with her bedroom eyes and offers him a night in paradise, he can’t say no. And he doesn’t regret it when he finds that Lanie is the best thing that’s ever happened to him-in or out of bed. Now the trick will be to convince her of that.” (via Amazon.com)
Why we gave it 5 Teacups:
We are so glad that Kristen Ashley has written a book for Hopper Kincaid and Lanie Heron. These are two characters we have met through the tales of others. Finally they are able to tell their story in their own words. Hopper deserves to have his story told and redeem himself, and Laine a happy ending with a man who deserves her.
These are two individuals who have gotten hurt badly in the past by those they thought they loved. In Motorcycle Man we are introduced to Lanie and her fiance Elliot. Our first impressions are that she is a stupid, spoiled princess, who is not very likable. In Fire Inside we understand Lanie better and learn that her former fiance Elliot was not the man we thought he was. Through the telling of her story, growing up in a dysfunctional family, and reasons she chose Elliot, Lanie becomes a lovable character who you sympathise for. Your realize just how strong she is and there are many things you grow to admire about her. We enjoyed the addition of Lanie’s family to the story. As she is healing, her alcoholic mother finally confronts the cheating bastard that is her father, and takes him to the cleaners. The women in her family unite and become stronger people in the end.
You first see Hopper and think he’s a DAWG, stepping out on his old lady with the club sweetbutt BeeBee. Here we learn the truth about his extremely unhappy marriage and the good guy that he really is. In the end you want Hop as your old man. Unlike Elliot, there would be no way Hopper would allow Lanie to take bullets for him; he is her shield.
By the time Fire Inside begins, Lanie is already apart of the Chaos family. Her and Hopper’s relationship is established, she not only knows his children but that he is a good guy. This is one aspect of the story we enjoyed, to see the friendship develop into true love. Lanie, who already understands club culture, and learns what it is to be an old lady, with Tyra as her mentor. She doesn’t just want Hop, because he’s a biker but rather for the man she learns he is.
The overlapping narrative with Own the Wind (Chaos Series #1) was interesting, as we saw the same events from different people’s perspectives. Although, we hoped there would be more included about the major overarching Benito story and mention of Rush.
Why we gave it 4 Handcuffs:
The relationship begins with a one night stand initiated by Lanie, who has always had a thing for Hopper. When Hop get a taste, one is not enough, he turns greedy and will use any methods within in his power to entice her back into his bed. Lanie does not fight him too hard; she enjoys what she gets from him in and out of the bedroom. The sex is hawt, frequent and somewhat detailed. Their relationship is keep from the Chaos family, this adds a bit of naughtiness as they sneak around. For him she is not just another “gash” but his “Lady”, he would never do her in a bathroom stall!
